Regina police confirm that a body discovered in the city’s north end last Friday is that of a 19-year-old international student from Nigeria who disappeared last month.

Promise Chukwudum, who was also known as Max, was in second-year computer science at the University of Regina.

His friends say he was last seen Nov. 17 at a bar and a house party before social media accounts he was active on went silent.

Police believed he could have left the party on foot and been looking for shelter from cold temperatures that were gripping the city at that time.

Chukwudum’s disappearance triggered ground and air searches, vigils and public rallies, and it also prompted his father to come from Nigeria to offer his help.

An investigation that includes the coroner’s office could take months to complete, but police say there is no indication Chukwudum’s death was the result of criminal activity. (The Canadian Press, CTV Regina)
