Seeing police dogs in action in Red Deer over the next week doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an emergency.

Over the next few days, some of the RCMP’s “finest canines” will be training throughout the community.

The Red Deer RCMP’s Police Dog Services (PDS) unit are planning some training exercises before the snow arrives.

“PDS often trains the police dogs throughout Red Deer neighbourhoods in the spring, summer and fall months, and should not be a cause for alarm amongst residents,” states an RCMP release.

The dog training handlers wear olive green uniforms, similar to the more familiar RCMP navy blue uniforms. They drive dark-coloured trucks with canopies, and have their canine partners by their sides.

“Please remember not to approach the officers – human or canine – while training, they’re hard at work to ensure they can help keep our community safe.”

The Red Deer RCMP thanks the public for its cooperation and patience.
