MEDICINE HAT — Police in Medicine Hat, Alta., say a video claiming a man was left beaten and bloody after his arrest for what he admitted was a staged event is completely unfounded.
Investigators say they got a 911 call Monday morning about someone who said he was going to jump into traffic near city hall.
A man found face down on a yoga mat in the middle of the road refused to co-operate with a lone officer at the scene and admitted the whole thing was staged.
He also said police would have to hurt him to get him to move, but two off-duty officers aided in getting him into custody without injury before he was taken to hospital and later admitted under mental health regulations.
He is not facing criminal charges, but was issued a traffic ticket.
Another man showed up to record the arrest and some video was released through social media, alleging the first man was beaten and bloodied, but investigators deny excessive force was used.
They also say people need to be properly informed before jumping to conclusions based on what they see online.
