Police patrol leads to drug seizure in central Alberta

During patrols on Tuesday officers located a vehicle with a stolen licence plate at an Innisfail gas station.

Innisfail RCMP’s general investigation section around 7 p.m. covertly followed the Honda Civic until it was parked at a second located and the occupants exited the vehicle.

The car was found to have multi-ounces of methamphetamine and hundreds of oxycodone tablets.

A passenger in the vehicle was also found to have multiple counterfeit identification documents on hm.

Both driver and passenger also had outstanding arrest warrants and were held for judicial interm release hearings and taken before a justice of the peace.

Steve Bigras-Varin, 31, from Edmonton is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a stolen licence plate, breaches for current release orders, driving while suspended and driving with no insurance.

Maxime Falardeau-Viau, a 32-year-old from Calgary, was charged with possession of fraudulent identity document.

Both were released by justice of the peace to appear in Red Deer court early next year.
