Police say collisions piling up on Hwy 2

A dozen vehicles, including a jack-knifed semi trailer unit, have been involved in multiple traffic collisions on Hwy 2, Olds RCMP reported at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

A dozen vehicles, including a jack-knifed semi trailer unit, have been involved in multiple traffic collisions on Hwy 2, Olds RCMP reported at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

Extreme icy condition on Hwy 2 north of the Olds overpass have resulted in drivers losing control. High winds in the area are blowing snow across the highway.

RCMP advise motorists to use extreme caution in the area due to black ice and avoid that part of Hwy 2 if possible, by using Hwy 2A instead.

Although the highway has not been shut down and traffic continues to flow, if motorists must take Hwy 2, they are advised to slow down in accordance with the existing road conditions.

As well, there are vehicles parked on the highway and ditch, pedestrians, and emergency services operating in that area to clean up the collisions.
