Police seek witnesses after pedestrian killed in downtown Red Deer collision

RCMP are searching for witnesses after a 68-year-old woman was killed in a collision in downtown Red Deer Tuesday.

According to Red Deer RCMP, a preliminary investigation revealed that a truck was heading southbound on 52nd Street. As the truck turned eastbound onto 48th Street, a pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk. Medical treatment was provided to the pedestrian but the woman was declared dead at the scene.

RCMP arrested the 83-year old male driver of the truck for failing to provide a breath sample. On Wednesday morning, the RCMP confirmed the man is in custody.

On Tuesday, the road was closed for about two hours while police conducted their investigation.

Police continue to investigate and are seeking additional witnesses to this incident.
