A new poll shows Premier Jason Kenney is in a precarious position ahead of the April 9 leadership review.

The latest data from Angus Reid Institute shows 68 per cent of Albertans strongly or moderately disapprove of Kenney’s leadership, compared to disapproval for NDP leader Rachel Notley pegged at 55 per cent.

Forty per cent of Albertans have favourable views of Notley, including 20 per cent with very favourable impressions of the former premier.

Thirty per cent approve of Kenney, including 20 per cent who strongly approve.

Compared to other provincial leaders, Kenney’s approval rate lags behind Ontario Premier Doug Ford who has 43 per cent support, Quebec Premier François Legault who is at 52 per cent, and British Columbia Premier John Horgan with 55 per cent.

After trailing for three consecutive quarters, the UCP are now almost tied with the NDP when it comes to support from Albertans in the next election.

Thirty-eight per cent Albertans say they would vote UCP, and 40 per cent would vote NDP.

Support for the UCP comes as the outlook of the Wildrose Independence Party falls. Eleven per cent say they would vote Wildrose, which is half the support they had in June.

Seventy per cent of those who voted for the UCP in 2019 say they will vote for them again, while 18 per cent say their support has shifted to the Wildrose, and seven per cent will switch to the NDP.
