A Ponoka area family is mourning the loss of a 20-year-old who was stabbed and killed at a house party near the University of Calgary early Saturday morning.

A Ponoka area family is mourning the loss of a 20-year-old who was stabbed and killed at a house party near the University of Calgary early Saturday morning.

Brenda Wiese confirmed on Monday morning that her son Brett Wiese was the victim of a homicide.

Calgary Police Service reported that at about 3 a.m. on Saturday that a stabbing occurred at a house party in the 5000 Block of Brisebois Drive N.W.

Upon arrival at the residence, officers found two male victims suffering from stab wounds. Both were transported to hospital; one in life-threatening condition, the second in serious condition. The first victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at hospital.

The crime scene was well contained and witnesses to the altercation were transported to police headquarters for questioning.

The Calgary Police Service Homicide unit is now investigating.
