Ponoka man charged with second-degree murder

A Ponoka man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the death of a 26-year-old woman.

A Ponoka man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the death of a 26-year-old woman.

At 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, Ponoka RCMP and EMS responded to a 911 call reporting an injured woman at a residential complex.

When police arrived, the woman, Chantelle Firingstoney, was found dead.

The Alberta RCMP major crimes unit has taken over the investigation.

An autopsy was performed by the medical examiner’s office and the death was ruled a homicide.

Ryan Applegarth, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Applegarth’s first appearance is Friday at Ponoka provincial court.
