Ponoka RCMP stumbled upon a stolen vehicle driver while trying to find another suspect.

On Saturday afternoon, Ponoka RCMP were at a residence to try to locate a suspect with an outstanding warrant.

While in the area, police observed a truck pulling into the parking lot. A man exited the vehicle, started looking around the property and engaged in conversation with the officers.

Officers checked the truck’s licence plate and determined the plate was stolen from Edmonton. Further investigation determined the truck was stolen from Red Deer.

A 42-year-old man from Castor was arrested on seven outstanding warrants relating to Criminal and Traffic Safety Act charges.

The same suspect is also facing additional charges including possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing a peace officer, and driving while unauthorized under the Traffic Safety Act.

He’s in custody and was scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Tuesday.
