Ponoka RCMP arrested a 27-year-old man after a stolen pickup truck got stuck in a ditch.

Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, police were called about a possible impaired driver who was walking away from his truck, which was stuck near Gee Road just off Highway 2.

When the responding officer arrived, it was determined the vehicle was stolen and abandoned.

Police contained the area and, with the assistance of police dogs, tracked the man through a wooded area. He was located and arrested without incident.

Controlled substances, including what is believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl, were found in the stolen truck. Ammunition, knives and stolen cheques, credit cards and passports were also discovered.

The man is facing numerous charges.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Ponoka on Dec. 21.
