Ponoka RCMP arrest 17-year-old following suspicious vehicle complaint

A 17-year-old from Edmonton is facing numerous charges after being arrested by Ponoka RCMP.

On Friday, at 4:28 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 2A near Ponoka. Police located the vehicle and determined it was reported stolen out of Edmonton.

The suspect was arrested – he initially provided a false name, police said. Upon searching the vehicle, police seized bear spray, a knife and what is believed to be 1.5 grams of methamphetamine.

The suspect is charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstruction, possession of an illegal substance and failure to comply.

The male has been remanded into custody and schedule to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Wednesday.
