Ponoka RCMP arrested two people after allegedly stealing a bait car.

The car was reported stolen around 7:30 a.m. March 11 after being parked at a local business.

With the assistance of the Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services and the Ponoka RCMP General Investigation Unit, the bait car was tracked and intercepted near near Joffre, Alta.

A man and woman inside the vehicle were arrested.

Police say the two drove the bait car to a rural property near Gull Lake, where they committed numerous break-and-enters and thefts.

The day before the bait car was stolen, the same man and woman were involved in a collision in a truck that was stolen in Rocky Mountain House. The truck rolled into a ditch and the two fled the scene.

Shortly after, they tried to break into numerous buildings and steal a vehicle on two separate farm properties, but were confronted by the property owners.

The 20-year-old man and 22-year-old woman are facing numerous charges, including trespassing at night, theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, and possession of a controlled substance.

The man is still in custody and will appear in Ponoka Provincial Court April 13.

The woman was released and scheduled to appear in court March 23. But she failed to appear and police have issued a warrant for her arrest.
