Ponoka RCMP charge four males with various firearm, stolen property offences

Ponoka RCMP have charged three men and a male youth with various firearm, drug and stolen property offences.

Officers responded to a report of a possible assault on 55th Street in Ponoka at about 8 a.m. on Jan. 8.

Police found an adult male victim had been assaulted, and four male suspects had fled the scene.

Three suspects were arrested at a nearby convenience store. The fourth man was arrested at a local residence a short time later.

Further investigation led police to obtain a search warrant for the residence and several items were seized, including a sawed-off shotgun, 60 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and stolen clothing.

A 21-year-old Edmonton man was charged with assault and drug possession. He and a 22-year-old man from Ponoka were also charged with a variety of other offences, including stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The two are in custody and will be appearing in Ponoka provincial court on Friday.

A 23-year-old man from Maskwacis was charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was released from custody with conditions, and will be appearing in Ponoka court March 1.

A 15-year-old male was also charged with possession of stolen property. He was released from custody with conditions and is to appear in Ponoka court March 13.
