Ponoka RCMP is looking into a potential arson that occurred last week.

Police say on Nov. 3, at about 9:06 a.m., they received a report of a car on fire north of 46 street on the central east side of the Town of Ponoka.

Ponoka RCMP attended the scene, along with the Ponoka Fire Department and were able to extinguish the fire. Because of the quick response, the fire was extinguished quickly enough that it remained identifiable and it was confirmed that it was a vehicle that had been stolen on Nov. 2.

Two independent witnesses observed a man walking away from the vehicle just prior to it igniting. The male suspect is described as having a light complexion, approximately 5’ 8” tall and wearing a dark-coloured hoodie, dark-coloured pants and dark shoes.

In a release, police say the behaviour of the male suspect was described as acting very suspiciously — continually looking back at the vehicle before it was on fire.

Ponoka RCMP are asking the public for any relevant video footage/recordings related to the theft of vehicle on Nov. 2, or the vehicle arson they may have been captured between the hours of 8:30 a.m.- 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, to contact the Ponoka RCMP at 403-783-4472.
