Ponoka police are investigating a reported child abduction attempt.

A 10-year-old girl was walking home from school at about 3:25 p.m. on Thursday when she was approached by an unknown man.

The girl told police the man asked her to go with him to get candy. The suspect continued to try to interact with the girl as she ran to a nearby business to seek help.

The suspect is described as being Caucasian, between 30 and 40 years old, about 1.75 metres (five-foot-eight-to-nine) inches in height, and approximately 80 to 85 kg (170 to 190 pounds). He has a brown moustache and was wearing a black winter coat with a green toque.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Ponoka RCMP at 403-783-4472.

Police are reminding parents to have regular discussions with their children about personal safety and about how they are always safer when walking with friends.
