A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Lacombe County early Friday morning, says Ponoka RCMP.

At 5:43 a.m., police were called to Highway 815, just south of Highway 604, where a male motorcyclist struck a deer.

After hitting the deer, he lost control of the motorcycle and slid on the highway – he came to a stop in the middle of the road as the motorcycle slid into the ditch.

Ponoka RCMP said “good samaritans” stopped and came to the aid of the motorcyclist.

Shortly after a northbound vehicle pulled out to pass another northbound vehicle that pulled over because of the collision.

One of the good samaritans jumped out of the way to avoid being struck by the vehicle, but the motorcyclist, who was still laying on the highway, was hit.

The northbound vehicle did not stop and continued along Highway 815.

The suspect vehicle is described as a red, early-2000s Volkswagen, possibly a Jetta. The rear passenger side tail light was burnt out.

Anyone with information, or dash camera footage in the area of Highway 815 north or south between Ponoka and the Joffre plant, as well as on Highway 53, east and west of the Highway 53 turnoff from Highway 815, is asked to contact Ponoka RCMP at 403-783-4472 or their local police service.
