RCMP have charged a man after he allegedly threatened to bear spray a child who was riding a bike in Ponoka.

Friday at 5 p.m., Ponoka RCMP responded to a complaint that an adult male, who was observed carrying a large bottle of liquor, had threatened a six-year-old child.

The man was walking on the sidewalk, and the child was on a bike on 54th Street.

Witnesses said that a dog was growling and the man became agitated and threatened the child.

The man ran into his nearby residence and remained inside until the RCMP obtained a warrant to enter the residence, located him and arrested him.

Clinton Roy Green, 30, is facing eight criminal charges in relation to the incident. His charges include uttering threats, assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing on May 12.

“While this child was not physically injured, we appreciate it was a scary situation for the child and the family nonetheless,” says Cpl. Jeff Sehn of the Ponoka RCMP detachment.

“Incidents like this won’t be tolerated in our community, particularly at a time when citizens may feel vulnerable during this pandemic.”
