A 61-year-old Ponoka woman died Wednesday when her car collided with a semi truck and trailer.

A 61-year-old Ponoka woman died Wednesday when her car collided with a semi truck and trailer.

Maskwacis RCMP said they and other emergency responders were called to the two-vehicle crash about two kms north of Maskwacis on Hwy 2A at 12:15 p.m.

Investigation found that the southbound car driven by the woman had collided with a northbound semi. With the assistance of witnesses and a collision analyst, it was determined that the car crossed over the centre line into the path of the truck and trailer.

The driver and only occupant of the southbound car was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is not being released until next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the truck did not sustain any injury.

Road conditions and visibility do not appear to have been factors. Traffic was diverted for about five hours during the investigation.
