Ponoka woman dead after collision with train

For the second time in two days, a driver has died after their vehicle collided with a train in central Alberta.

For the second time in two days, a driver has died after their vehicle collided with a train in central Alberta.

Ponoka RCMP were called to a collision about 3:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon at Township Road 242 near Highway 2A, about five km south of Ponoka. EMS, firefighters and CP Rail police were also on scene.

The lone occupant of the car, a 26-year-old Ponoka woman, was declared dead at the scene.

On Sunday, a woman was killed and a child seriously injured after a car collided with a train near Wetaskiwin.

RCMP said the collision happened about 3:50 p.m. near Highway 2A and Township Road 470 about six km northwest of Wetaskiwin.

Police said the SUV was travelling westbound on Township Road 470 when it collided with a northbound train at a crossing.
