The Town of Ponoka says the annual Christmas lights display at Lions Centennial Park is bigger and brighter than ever this year, thanks to the Ponoka Lions Club’s donation of $5,000 to help expand the light display across the full length of the park.

Residents are invited to stroll through Centennial Park and view the tens of thousands of festive lights that are now on display.

The Lions Centennial Park light display features:

- Expanded tree lighting displays;

- A colourfully lit Christmas tree at Fort Ostell Museum; and

- Other winter wonderland delights.

“The town has been expanding the Christmas light display at Centennial Park each year for the past few years thanks to generous donations from community groups like the Ponoka Lions Club,” said Sandra Lund, chief administrative officer, in a release.

“Our hope is that the sparkle and glow of the annual light display will delight and entertain families and visitors to Ponoka throughout this holiday season,” she said.

Ponoka’s Christmas Lights Tour

Residents can also enjoy the holiday season by participating in Ponoka’s annual Christmas Lights Tour. The tour showcases and celebrates festively decorated homes and yards throughout the community.

Self-guided Christmas Lights Tour maps are now available on the town website at www.ponoka.ca. Paper copies can be picked-up from the Ponoka Aquaplex, Arena Complex, Ponoka Jubilee Library and the Town Office at the Ponoka Civic Centre.

The tour map lists the location of more than 20 festively decorated homes throughout the community. Citizens can use the map to plot out their own routes for the light tour. You can divide the map into smaller sections and spend multiple evenings touring home light displays, or you can devote a whole evening to view all of the holiday light displays in one big tour.
