An individual who was at Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus has tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual was in the school Nov. 26 and 27, and may have been contagious during that time, a Clearview Public Schools release said on Saturday.

In collaboration with Alberta Health Services, the school division will only contact parents or guardians of students and staff who have been in close contact with the individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

A school administrator will phone those individuals and follow up with a formal letter with details about quarantine expectations. If an individual has not been contacted by 7 p.m. Saturday, their child did not have close contact with the individual who tested positive and therefore is not at an increased risk from COVID-19.

“As part of our advanced planning, we were prepared to respond to this situation,” the Clearview Public Schools release said.

“Our school continues to remain open next week as per expected and we are working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.

“This includes cleaning and disinfecting all items touched by the individual and removing items that cannot be cleaned or disinfected, such as paper, books, etc. Our maintenance/custodial team have already enacted all cleaning protocols as directed by Alberta Environmental Public Health.”

The school division is reminding parents and guardians to closely monitor their children for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

“While this is a challenging time, we continue to trust that we can lean on one another for support and companionship. We are in this together and will be sending updates to families as information becomes available.”
