The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) is looking for entries for a national poster contest, Safe Fun in the Sun!, aimed at raising awareness about sun safety among children. Youngsters with artistic talent can win prizes, including digital scrapbooking kits or mini video cameras. Happening now through June 13, the contest invites kids to create a poster showing ways to have safe fun in the sun. “Good sun protection habits in childhood can significantly reduce the risk of skin cancer later on in life,” says Dr. Cheryl Rosen, national director of the CDA’s Sun Awareness Program. Sun safety is easy, she adds. “Limit sun exposure, seek shade, wear a hat, cover up with clothing when possible, and use an SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen.” You can find more information, and a contest entry sheet that you can print out, at www.dermatology.ca/safefuninthesun. There will be provincial and national winners in three age groups: 5 years and under, 6 - 8 years, 9 - 12 years. Prizes include Crayola Digital Camera scrapbooking kits; Kodak mini video cameras; Chapters Indigo $50 gift certificates; a Chapters Indigo $100 gift certificate, and a Flip video camera.

Entries should be mailed to Canadian Dermatology Association, Safe Fun in the Sun! poster contest, 5562 Swordfern Place, North Vancouver, B.C., V7R 4T1. Deadline for receiving entries is Monday, June 13, 2011. Winners will be notified by phone on Friday, June 17.
