Premier Jason Kenney advised those attending anti-mask rallies this weekend to do so cautiously.
The premier, in a Facebook Live question and answer session with Albertans, said that while individuals have the right to protest, they should consider the well-being of others when doing so.
“If they get together in a large protest, close together, without taking the precaution of wearing a mask, they are creating a chance of transmission and at worst a possible superspreader event,” Kenney said.
He asked instead to organize a safe protest, where people are spaced out or wearing masks.
There was a freedom rally in downtown Red Deer last weekend and another is planned for this Saturday.
Kenney also addressed the issue of the COVID-19 virus as a hoax and he said based on personal examples, it is very real.
“If you think this a hoax, talk to my friend, who spent nearly two months in the ICU fighting for his life. Speak to the survivors who have lost loved ones. “
