Prisoner missing from Bowden Institution’s minimum security unit

An arrest warrant has been issued for Sylvain Martin who escaped from Bowden Institution’s minimum security unit on Thursday.

A 50-year-old male prisoner went missing from Bowden Institution’s minimum security unit on Thursday.

His absence was noticed at 10:30 p.m., when staff were accounting for prisoners and discovered Sylvain Martin wasn’t among them.

Innisfail RCMP were contacted and an arrest warrant has been issued for Martin.

He is described as being 1.65 metres (five-foot-five inches) tall, weighing 67 kg (148 pounds), with a fair complexion, blue eyes and auburn hair. He has scars on his back and around his eyes, and tattoos on his right forearm, upper and lower back.

He is supposed to be serving a nine year and 11 month sentence for fraud, obstructing police, possession of an illegal substance, forgery and other charges.

Anyone with information about Martin’s whereabouts is asked to call police.

Correctional Service Canada is investigating the circumstances of his absence without leave and is working with police to try to locate him.
