WADENA, Sask. — A man is dead after a police-involved shooting on a Saskatchewan First Nation.

Two officers from the Wadena RCMP detachment were called Tuesday afternoon to a home on the Fishing Lake First Nation, about 230 kilometres east of Saskatoon.

A caller had said a man armed with a knife was outside the residence causing a disturbance.

Police say at least one of the Mounties fired their gun soon after arriving, injuring a man who died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by police and emergency services personnel.

Authorities have not released a name, nor any other details about what led up to the encounter.

The Saskatchewan RCMP says Moose Jaw police will investigate the shooting, while the provincial justice ministry has been asked to appoint an independent observer to assess the probe.
