Red Deer’s Systems Leadership Team is offering trauma awareness and social diversion programs.

Supported by the City of Red Deer, the programs aim to create a strong, engaged community where everyone feels safe and supported.

The team consists of community representatives focused on community safety, identifying system gaps, potential solutions and opportunities for strategies for a more collaborative approach to some of the challenges Red Deerians face.

The Social Diversion Pilot project 2-1-1 provides intervention to at-risk, high-need individuals that, in a time of crisis, require an intervention-based non-emergency response. Often they need help due to mental health, addictions and housing-related challenges.

Social diversion will provide supports to concerned residents and business owners to access another level of response to those in need, including street-level responses to reduce law enforcement and medical emergency responses and resourcing.

People can call the social diversion team at 2-1-1 and press 2 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m, seven days a week.

Trauma Awareness Training is a free, two-day program. For more information visit the Better Together website.
