Red Deerians can provide feedback to city council about whether the temporary homeless shelter should be allowed to remain downtown for another year at a public hearing on May 25.

Council wants to hear from the public before deciding whether to allow the interim shelter to continue operating at its current location in the former Cannery Row Bingo building until May 31, 2022.

Council gave initial approval to this one-year extension on April 29, but will consider second and third hearing after the public hearing.

Citizens who want their opinions included in the council agenda must submit by May 21. Feedback received after this date will be provided directly to councillors.

The following are ways to participate:

• By phone during the live virtual public hearing: Red Deerians can call in via phone conference by dialing 1-833-714-0895 and entering 42996496. (Note: This is an opportunity for citizens to share their concerns but not to ask council questions. There will be a 10-minute time limit, which includes group representations.)

• By email: legislativeservices@reddeer.ca

• Or by regular mail: City Council, c/o City Clerk, 2nd Floor City Hall, Box 5008, Red Deer, AB T4N 3T4.

The virtual hearing will start at 4 p.m. To view it visit meeting.reddeer.ca.
