A grand opening ceremony was held for the QEII Wellness Centre on Friday.

The facility holds a variety of health services: a pharmacy, family medicine practice, physical therapist, sleep clinic, infusion therapy clinic and a medical cosmetic services clinic. Additionally, a dentist office and chiropractic service will open this fall.

Red Deerians will benefit from “having all of those health care services together in one centre,” said Steven Busse, who owns the building along with Jolin Giesbrecht.

The idea for the project was formed about two years ago.

“We sat down with the owners of the Horizon Medical Clinic and we started talking about them needing a bigger space than what they were in. Then it grew from there,” said Busse.

The actual construction on the facility, located at 4845 66 St., began in late 2020. Busse said they considered many locations before settling on the one in North Red Deer

“We looked throughout the city – in the south, downtown and up here in the north,” Busse said.

“The parking was a big (focus) – we needed a space big enough to accommodate all of the clients. That played a big part in us being here too.”

Friday’s grand opening was held to mark the first building in the two-building project. The second building, which is targeted to open in 2024, will be able to house more health and medical services.

“It’s very exciting to let everybody know we’re officially open and the businesses are doing well and getting established. It’s been working out really great. Everyone’s been working together well,” said Giesbrecht.

Starting this summer, Central Alberta Medical Imaging Services will provide services in collaboration with Horizon Family Medicine.
