A quick-thinking Rimbey volunteer firefighter managed to save a pickup truck and trailer from being consumed in a grass fire on Sunday.

Firefighters were alerted about 4:30 p.m. to the fire near the Rimbey golf course, which has been closed for several years.

A pickup truck with a propane bed-mounted tank and a trailer were in the path of the flames but was driven to safety.

Fire chief John Weisgerber said four to five acres were burned in the fire that also consumed a couple of nearby trees.

No one was injured in the fire that took about 90 minutes to put out.
