A rail car servicing facility near Joffre is expanding.

Procor Ltd. repairs and washes tank and freight cars at its site just west of Joffre.

On Thursday, Lacombe County’s municipal planning commission approved an expansion that would see five new rail lines added along with a new parking lot and a portable building.

The additional rail lines will allow more cars to be serviced at the site. The number of employees working there will increase to 23 from 18.

Among the conditions attached to the approval is that Procor develop a rail yard noise abatement program.

While there have been no complaints, having a program in place will help the company respond if issues arise.

Another condition calls on Procor to ensure that the business does not pose a nuisance to surrounding property owners.
