Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning on Monday for Red Deer and central Alberta.

Heavy rain will bring up to 70 mm for parts of western and central Alberta by Monday night.

Generally, rainfall amounts between 40 and 50 mm are expected, but higher amounts of up to 70 mm are possible in areas impacted by thunderstorms.

Heavy rain will begin to taper off from the northwest this afternoon with much of the rain ending by Tuesday morning.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
