A tip from a rural crime watch group helped Innisfail RCMP nab two suspected thieves.

Innisfail RCMP say they were contacted by the Blackfalds detachment about 10 a.m. Friday after a generator was stolen from a rural property near Gasoline Alley.

“The generator had been tracked to a rural location near Spruce View, where it appeared to stop,” say RCMP.

While Innisfail RCMP were investigating, they got a tip from a member of the Raven Crime Watch Society. Raven is about 10 kilometres west of Spruce View.

“This tip ultimately led to the recovery of the generator as well as the arrest of two males,” said police on Monday.

“Innisfail RCMP would like to thank the continued efforts of local crime watch groups and recognize them as a valued partner in rural crime reduction efforts.”

Brandon Edmond Wegner, 29, of Penhold, and Jaydyn Warrick Lovelace, 23, of Red Deer, were charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of break-in tools and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Wegner was also charged with six counts of breaching a recognizance.
