Nearly a dozen men are facing charges after a police crackdown on soliciting prostitutes.
Red Deer RCMP said police conducted a targeted enforcement operation to address sex trade activities downtown.
“As a result of this operation, 11 men ranging in age from 21 to 61 years old were charged with obtaining sexual services for consideration,” says the RCMP.
In addition to those charges, one man was arrested for possession of cocaine, another was arrested for breach of probation and a third was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
“It’s critical that we continue to work to deter this type of crime in order to protect workers in the sex trade industry,” said Insp. Mark Groves, the operations support officer for Red Deer.
“They represent some of the most vulnerable in our society. This operation also further supports our broader enforcement efforts in the downtown area to decrease criminal activity.”
