RCMP charge two men after Red Deer robbery

One suspect also faces impaired driving charge

Two men now face armed robbery charges after there was a robbery at one gas station and an attempted robbery on Wednesday in Red Deer.

At about 2:15 a.m., two men with a firearm approached the locked door at the Fas Gas located at 5101 76 St. and attempted unsuccessfully to smash it to gain entry before fleeing in a Ford Contour. Red Deer RCMP responded and obtained descriptions and surveillance images.

Shortly afterwards, at about 2:30 a.m., two men entered the Fas Gas located at 4023 50 St. with a firearm and demanded cash and lottery tickets. RCMP located the suspect car nearby and took the male driver into custody without incident, seizing a firearm from the vehicle. Police officers arrested the second suspect at a residence a short time later.

RCMP also initiated an impaired driving investigation. Charges have now been sworn against the two men.

Lucas James Werner, 34, faces the following charges: two counts of robbery with firearm, impaired operation of motor vehicle, impaired operation over 80 mg, and fail to comply with conditions.

Alvin James Werner, 21, faces the following charges: two counts of robbery with firearm and pointing a firearm .

Both suspects were schedules to be in Red Deer provincial court on Friday.
