A spike belt was deployed on Kerry Wood Drive near Bower Ponds on Wednesday night and police seized drugs and a loaded, sawed-off shotgun from the vehicle involved.

Red Deer RCMP said shortly before 11 p.m. ALERT members on patrol located the suspect vehicle as it was coming into north Red Deer. The spike belt was put in place and officers prepared themselves for a high-risk take down.

The vehicle drove for a short distance before stopping and its four occupants were arrested without incident.

Among them was a 36-year-old man who RCMP and Alert members were actively searching for throughout the day and evening. Police seized small amounts of cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine and fentanyl along with the loaded shotgun that was found under the driver’s seat.

All four occupants were wanted on outstanding warrants.

The 36-year-old had outstanding warrants out of Red Deer for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, weapons possession, and three counts of failing to comply with conditions. New charges include identity fraud, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of an unauthorized firearm while knowing possession was unauthorized, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, two counts of weapons possession contrary to an order, and failing to comply with an undertaking.

He is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court today.
