RCMP are looking for a man accused of sexually assaulting a child on the Sunchild First Nations Reserve.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP were called to a home on the Sunchild First Nations Reserve, around 40 km northwest of Rocky Mountain House on Wednesday at 12:45 a.m.

Police believe a young child may have been sexually assaulted by an adult male who had been living in the same household as the child’s parents. Police did not give an age, but said the young child was transported to a Calgary-area hospital for medical assessment.

Police have issued arrest warrants for Dexter Strawberry, 54, on charges of sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual interference with respect to a child under the age of six years and breach of recognizance charges.

The identity of the victims can not be released.

Strawberry remains at large, but Rocky Mountain House RCMP are looking for him.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP Cpl. John Harrison said Dexter may have relatives in the Buck Lake area.

“We’re looking for him and we’re seeking the public’s assistance and anyone who may know him and know where he is,” Harrison said.

Investigators are asking for anyone with information that could help in the investigation or who know the whereabouts of Dexter Strawberry to contact Rocky Mountain House RCMP at 403-845-2882 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go to www.tipsubmit.com.
