RCMP in Alberta believe motorcycle rider died after colliding with moose

A motorcycle rider has died after police believe he crashed into a moose east of Edmonton.

RCMP say they received a call early Saturday about a man down on Highway 16, a little over 20 kilometres east of the provincial capital.

Police say they arrived to find the man, who was believed to be in his 60s and from Edmonton, deceased.

They say their initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle struck a moose, which was also discovered to be dead at the scene.

Police say speed is not considered to be a factor in the collision and road conditions at the time were clear and dry.

The man’s body has been taken to the Medical Examiners office for an autopsy.
