A 68-year-old Red Deerian is dead after a collision in central Alberta earlier this week.

Blackfalds RCMP and emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12, west of Lacombe, at 4:35 p.m. this past Tuesday.

Police say a westbound pickup truck collided with a motorcycle travelling east. The motorcycle driver was declared dead and the 30-year-old driver of the pickup truck, a Lacombe resident, was not injured.

The RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. Traffic was diverted for several hours while scene examination and clean up occurred, but the area is now open for travel.

The investigation is ongoing.
