RCMP lay second degree murder charge in central Alberta

Early Sunday, the Rocky Mountain House RCMP launched an investigation into a shooting outside a residence on Sunchild First Nation.

The victim of the shooting died on the scene, and the major crimes unit was deployed to take carriage of the investigation at about 6 a.m.

The investigation led the Rocky Mountain House RCMP to locate a suspect vehicle and contain a residence on the Sunchild First Nation. With the assistance of the emergency response team, the suspect man surrendered and was taken into custody at about 5:20 p.m.

Keean Frencheater (24) of Sunchild First Nation is charged with one count of second degree murder in the homicide of Jason Lagrelle (39).

A bail hearing has been held and Frencheater is being held in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court of Rocky Mountain House on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
