RCMP nab 91 drunk drivers on August long weekend

Police also hand out 983 speeding tickets

Alberta RCMP handed out 2,087 traffic tickets and took 91 drunk drivers off the road during an August long weekend crackdown.

Between July 29 and Aug. 1, police nabbed 983 speeders and 91 impaired drivers. Forty-four people were fined for distracted driving and 40 were ticketed for not wearing seatbelts.

“The Alberta RCMP worked to make the long weekend a safe and enjoyable holiday for those out on our provincial streets and highways,” said Alberta RCMP Traffic Insp. Chris Romanchych.

“By preventing and removing risks from the roads, the RCMP is committed to upholding traffic safety across Alberta.”
