RCMP respond to report of shots fired in Mountview Wednesday morning

No one injured in 8:20 a.m. incident but nearby schools temporarily locked down

Red Deer RCMP responded to a report that shots were fired at a residence near 38th Street and 41st Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Police said they got a call about gunshots around 8:20 a.m. Nearby schools were alerted and were placed in “hold and secure” status while the incident was investigated. The schools have since returned to normal.

Eastview Middle School, Maryview School and St. Thomas Aquinas Middle School are all within a few blocks of the location.

Police said no one was injured in the incident.

“Although early in the investigation RCMP believe that this was a targeted incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” said RCMP in a news release that came out shortly before 10 a.m.
