Red Deer RCMP are searching for a man who attempted to rob the Village Mall TD Bank late Wednesday afternoon.

Police say at about 5:15 p.m., a man entered the bank, located at 6320 50th Ave., and passed a note to a teller demanding $2,000 in cash.

When the teller could not access that amount of money and called a supervisor over, the suspect left.

The suspect left the bank without any money and was last seen leaving the area on foot, walking north.

Witnesses did not see a weapon and no one was injured during the attempted robbery.

Police patrols of the area failed to locate the suspect. Police dog services were not able to track the suspect due to weather conditions and traffic.

The suspect is described as about 30 years old, with a heavy build, weighing 80 to 90 kg (180 to 200 pounds). He had a short, buzz-cut beard with some grey. He wore a brown ball cap and red T-shirt.

He was breathing heavily while at the bank and did not speak.

Anyone with information that may assist the police in identifying the suspect is asked to call Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at www.tipsubmit.com.
