RCMP seeking suspect in double shooting in Maskwacis

RCMP are asking for help in locating a Maskwacis man in connection with an August shooting at Ermineskin Cree Nation that left two females badly wounded.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Shayden Trey Rain, 20, who is facing two counts each of attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to injure, pointing a firearm, as well as single counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.

Rain is believed to be residing within Maskwacis or the Wetaskiwin area. Rain is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached by the public. If anyone sees him they should call 911 immediately.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Ermineskin Cree Nation.

“Early reports indicated that multiple shots were fired and a vehicle fled the scene,” said Maskwacis RCMP. “Police responded to the area and located two women with serious life threatening injuries. Both were transported to hospital for medical treatment.”

Two suspects were identified by police. A 20-year-old Maskwacis was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and failing to comply with a release order.

The suspect was released from custody and is due in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Oct. 12.

Rain is described as five-foot-five (1.65 m) and weighing about 120 pounds (54 kg). He has black hair and brown eyes.
