A Bowden man is facing numerous charges after drugs and an arsenal of weapons were seized including a shotgun and 60 edged weapons.
Olds RCMP launched an investigation last December after it was alleged a man was selling drugs out of a business in the town.
On Feb. 2, Olds RCMP, RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Section, Southern Alberta District General Investigative Section, Alberta RCMP Interview Team and Didsbury RCMP officers executed search warrants at an Olds business and a Bowden residence.
Police seized:· 77 grams of suspected cocaine methamphetamine, 69 grams of suspected fentanyl, 2.5 grams of suspected heroin 1,354 grams of cannabis, 10 grams of cannabis resin, 18 grams of psilocybin along with small amounts of metronidazole, Adderall, codeine, lyrica, cyclobenzaprine, lorazepam, hydromorphine and LSD.
A 60-year-old Bowden man has been charged with three counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, or prohibited or restricted weapon and two offences under the Cannabis Act.
The suspect was released on bail and is due back in Didsbury provincial court on March 6.
“There are concerns that drug activity has gone up in the community with two recent drugs seizures,” said Olds detachment commander Staff Sgt. Warren Wright in a news release. “Drug activity has not gone up but rather RCMP have successfully concluded two drug investigations resulting in local residents being charged with offences as well as large seizures of drugs and weapons.
“The RCMP are working very hard to ensure that community safety,” said Warren.
