RCMP warn of poor highway conditions in central Alberta

The RCMP has been advising drivers to avoid Highway 2 in central Alberta this weekend due to poor road conditions.

Early Saturday morning, RCMP issued a press release to warn the public of “poor road conditions” along the highway between Red Deer and Airdrie.

“Black ice and changing conditions are affecting visibility and surface traction on the road,” police said, adding it was recommended that drivers stay off the roadway.

A second release was issued on Sunday morning, once again advising the public of the poor road conditions.

“Many snowplows and other snow removal equipment, such as graders, continue to work to keep Alberta’s highways clear and open to traffic,” police said in a 9 a.m. release.

“It is advised to stay off the road during these poor road conditions, unless travel is absolutely necessary. If roads are closed, do not travel at all. Please see up to date road reports from 511 Alberta and plan your travel plans accordingly.”
