RDP names VP academic and student experience

Lindsay Engel comes from Ontario’s Sheridan College

Red Deer Polytechnic has a new vice-president of academic and student experience.

Lindsay Engel comes to RDP from Ontario’s Sheridan College, where she was dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology.

“As an academic leader in the Ontario system, Ms. Engel has established innovative, student-focused, collaborative learning environments that have brought together infrastructure, faculty, industry, and students to enable success both within and outside of the institution,” said RDP president Stuart Cullum in a statement Tuesday.

“Her leadership will play a pivotal role as RDP continues its transformation into an industry-focused, student-centric and nationally recognized polytechnic.”

Cullum says Engel brings extensive experience to the position, having served in instructing, academic and research leadership roles at Sheridan, Fanshawe, George Brown and Niagara College in Ontario. She has led the development of several new programs, college-industry partnerships, learner pathway initiatives and co-op opportunities for students.

She is completing her PhD in Applied Sciences at Brock University and brings a comprehensive background in research, data analysis, strategy and process improvement within the post-secondary, municipal and health sectors. She has worked on projects with the City of Edmonton and Alberta Health Services and is currently a board member of Skilled Trades Ontario and the Brampton Board of Trade.

“I am thrilled to be joining Red Deer Polytechnic,” says Engel, who will start on Aug. 8. “I look forward to furthering its vision of being a transformational, innovative, and entrepreneurial institution focused on serving the needs of the learner, the community, partners, and the region.”
