Red Deer Rebels owner/general manager/head coach Brent Sutter today announced the acquisition of 18-year-old forward Dominik Volek from the Regina Pats.

In exchange, the Pats receive forward Marc McCoy, 18, forward Filip Vasko, 19, and a conditional pick in the 2015 WHL bantam draft.

Volek scored 14 goals and collected 32 points in 70 games with Regina last season. He decided not to return to the Pats and instead joined Farjestad of Sweden’s Super Elite League.

Volek, who played with the Czech Republic in the 2012 World Under-18 Hockey Championship, had five points (2g,3a) in 13 games with Farjestad this season.

David Volek, the father of the newest Rebel, was a teammate of Sutter’s with the New York Islanders. Volek played with the Islanders from 1988 to 1994.

Dominik Volek, six-foot and 172 pounds, is expected to join the Rebels after the Christmas break.
