Record donations collected at Innisfail checkstop

Held Dec. 11 for five hours

Innisfail’s 25th annual Charity Checkstop raised a record-breaking $17,181.05 for local charities.

Hosted by Innisfail RCMP, the Dec. 11 event collected about two truck loads of high quality toys and new clothing for Innisfail Christmas Bureau, and 292 kilograms of food for Innisfail Food Bank.

Donations were also distributed to Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre and Youth Positive Assets Coalition.

Innisfail RCMP wanted to acknowledge the many volunteers who made the event possible. Volunteers included representatives from Innisfail Fire Department, Town of Innisfail, Town of Innisfail Bylaw, Innisfail Christmas Bureau, Innisfail Food Bank, Youth Positive Asset Coalition, and Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre.

A special thanks went out to Jim Romaine who was Santa Claus, and Courtney Malone who was Safety Bear and also provided the Christmas music.

Local businesses that provided donations included Nestle Purina, Central Alberta Co-op, 7-Eleven, Boston Pizza, Dairy Queen, Subway, Tim Hortons, Innisfail Bowling Lanes, Coffee Cottage, Sandstone IDA, NAPA, Field & Forge, Complete Catering, and the Innisfail Legion.
