Red Deer wants to be green.

A survey asking Red Deerians to share their feedback on environmental issues was released Wednesday, as part of the city’s Environmental Master Plan (EMP) refresh.

“Community input is an important component of this project,” said Nancy Hackett, environmental initiatives supervisor. “We’ve been working with a citizen engagement group, but this survey is an opportunity for us to hear more broadly from the community.”

Feedback collected, along with the work of the community engagement group and stakeholder consultations, will help identify the community’s priorities. The feedback will also help identify actions the city and community can take to protect the environment and some of the potential challenges and barriers.

“The EMP set a 25-year vision, but we committed to review the our progress periodically to ensure the plan still reflects current trends and reflects the needs of the community,” said Hackett.

The revised EMP is expected to be completed mid-year.

The survey is available at www.reddeer.ca/survey until April 9, 2018.

In addition to the survey, Red Deerians can give feedback at two upcoming events; the EcoLiving Fair at Red Deer College this Saturday and Let’s Talk at Parkland Mall April 7.
